My Power-Eight Smoothie
Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner, this has become my favorite smoothie!!
With the invention of the NutriBullet, many of us have taken to making smoothies for nutritional value or meal replacements in the name of getting healthy. I wasn't the first on the bandwagon of this new craze, but I'm glad I didn't wait any longer.
I've tried many recipes with various ingredients I had on hand, but my favorite, by far, is my Power 8 Smoothie:
Makes 1-2 Servings, depending on daily calories
1 Cup of Spinach, packed
1/2 Cup Kale, packed, stems removed
1/2 Ripe Banana
4 Large Strawberries
1-1.5 Cups Almond Milk
1 T Ground Flaxseed
Vanilla Protein Powder (I use Herbalife's 1 Healthy Meal French Vanilla)
* Spirulina Powder
Once all items are washed, peeled and de-stemmed, I put them in the large container of my NutriBullet Pro as listed about, and blend for 1 minute, rest for about 15-30 seconds and blend for another minute. Whaalah! Perfect every time! Either keep it in the NutriBlend bottle or pour it into a Blender Bottle and stow it in the refrigerator until you're ready to drink it.
For a special treat, I reduce the protein powder by half and add 1 tablespoon of unsweetened cocoa powder, and 1 tablespoon of peanut butter.
It took me a LOMG TIME before I added the Avocado. I had heard that it makes your smoothie creamier, but I detest avocados and wasn't having it. I graduated from 1 tablespoon to a quarter of a medium avocado.
When choosing ingredients, try to get farm fresh or organic when possible. It may be more expensive, but overall better for you and more flavorful.
On top of that, it must be good, because it made my soul food eating mom a believer, and she has one at least 6 times a week.
